A new home for in-depth education to help you hone your craft and create more compelling images
This new space will be a platform for photography courses, a means to document my own photographic journey, and a venue for visitors to view my work and purchase prints.
In this post, I’d like to introduce the website and explain why I am embarking on this new (and at times terrifying) endeavor. Welcome!
The name
The name Elementum highlights the focus on core (but not necessarily simple or easy) fundamentals for creating photographs which apply no matter what gear you use, from a Polaroid to a smartphone to a large-format Hasselblad and everything in between.
It also refers to my own pared down, minimalistic photography style, as you can see throughout the website, blog, and in my portfolio.
Courses
Why develop and provide yet more photography education content when the internet is already flooded with it? Because these are the online courses that I had wanted to take myself but could not find: with a clear focus on composition, the creative process, and image analysis to help a photographer improve.
These courses will take you every step of the way towards creating better images, ranging from beginner to advanced. They will not focus on gear specifics, and therefore will be useful to all photographers, no matter what equipment you have. Whether you are new to holding a camera and don’t know where to start, or you are a seasoned pro looking to up your game, this will put you on the path to creating more compelling images.
At the time of this writing, the first set of courses is still in development. I will post updates and previews closer to the launch date in a few months. Blog
Why write a photography blog? I want to showcase my work, but more precisely, I want to document the creative process. This serves both as an educational tool for you, the reader, and as a way to hold myself accountable and stay more present in my own process to create better photographs.
You will find posts where I discuss photo sessions from concept to result, analyze images, share thoughts about the creative process, and more.
Portfolio
The portfolio area lets you experience a highly curated selection of my modern, minimalistic photographs, and purchase professionally created, archival quality prints in various sizes.
Newsletter
I send out a biweekly newsletter to keep subscribers informed on new blog posts, courses, and photographs. The newsletter also contains subscriber-only exclusive content such as creative prompts, photography subject ideas, and ebooks. Sign up here!
